Empty shoes, chapter one: temples

Some people wish to fly to the moon metaphorically and some seriously want such an event to occur into reality. Martha became not fond of any of these two mentioned above, she just wanted her reality to be as good as she wants because since she was disappointed severally she stopped lucid dreaming and focused more on what’s happening in here and now. But what exactly does she want to have to make her satisfied?

Beginning the first chapter that will soak in details might manifest the answer of that previous question.

Martha and her narcissist husband Freud are heading to a sky oriented temple that requires a lot of time people spend escalating to it. Freud’s colleague is an addict of adrenaline sparks that are seized through risks, he was accompanied by his wife Kayla that was also brought to that tour forcibly by him, and she’s not the only one obviously, Freud and Martha are mildly acrophopics but they had nothing to do all the days so they had to accept whatever the destiny decides for them as a possible entertainment.

The outer view included two temples linked to each other by a bridge, every corner was way mysterious and scarier than the other, you are feet apart from the ground, surrounded by clouds and it gets darker more when you go higher because the sky lacks molecules of the scattered lights that all have different wavelengths, the shorter the distance is between the ground and the sky the more the lights and colors will be intensified.

They say that only the light of faith guides you meanwhile walking through that dimness. Martha is a person who detach from folks and starts exploring individually

as she doesn't like to restrict herself according to others' perceptions and plans

she will get closer to the other temple, and whereas she's walking on the bridge

she finds extinguished cigarettes, food containers, and crushed papers,

the openings on the walls of the bridge were narrow enough

to allow none of the thrown objects to pass through relatively according to the size.

she started to open the papers and found many people praying differently

in their own ways, she giggled at them and their naïve prayers as she claims,

and then kept walking to the other temple, and coincidentally found Kayla

"the wife of Freud's friend Jacob"

taking sensitive photos alone in the temple, Martha hided behind the pillars

hence, once Kayla leaves Martha enters after she recorded that lady doing

such a thing to herself and distorting her dignity.

She kept it with her, and entered the temple, laid on her back, taking a look around...

finding sacred books open and some of their pages are torn

she found an oil lamp covered with dust, but felt hot, seemed like someone

already used it earlier before she enters, maybe Kayla as the fingerprints are small referring to a woman's hand…

the height up there kind of hinders the lights from reaching much through the temple, especially when it's dusk, the temple is mostly closed, only a round window was created on the ceiling but it was blocked because in rainy seasons it applies the rains in causing the tourists to get irritated.

Martha took the sacred books secretively, put in her backpack

and went back to the folks, pretending like she saw nothing...

Kayla confused because she was there and never met Martha...

Martha told her that she saw someone in the temple but she didn't want to interrupt, thinking that this person might be praying and in need of a moment of privacy, and when the person got out she entered. Kayla was still confused but cooled down a little bit because Martha seemed calm and astonished of the place.

They continued the journey… went to different places on the mountain and then went back home next day. Martha opened the books, saw names carved on them, saw secrets written by tourists in different languages, but she only understood the ones written in her language...

She read about who killed a rabbit and never forgave himself doing this in his

childhood even calling himself Satan in his flesh, about a lady that craves having a child, about a man who wants to marry the lady he loves, and she's already married!

And a man wants his family to die so he can earn the wealth for himself.

she read about a person complaining about their luxurious life without love

and a person who had a brain concussion and lost all the memories

willing to regain them back.

And she read about a lady who cheats on her husband and wishing no one to know her secret also willing to take the custody from him and proves illegal actions with others after separation "falsely" because she wants to make him look guilty instead of being a victim of her impurity.

Martha took photos of the handwriting to make sure it's for Kayla.

She called Kayla and asked her if she had time because she's bored while Freud is out, and she needs company.

Kayla invited her in, they were talking normally and since they were alone Kayla felt more comfortable because Martha didn't confront her exploiting that moment, they even played card games, watched movies, Martha took Jennifer to her bed and narrated stories until she slept, and then she asked Kayla to write a prescription since she's a doctor.

She needed a medicine for constipation and no one will give her medicines without any doctor's recommendations or recipes. Kayla did it as a favor without payments or check-up sessions.

Martha went home, compared the hand writing and it surprisingly matched, she took a photo of the analogy, painted her lips red and waited for her husband to come...

she asked him if he's intending to spend a romantic night with her

but he rejected using the excuse of being tired.

She went downstairs, midnight to sit in the bus shelter,

she took the bus to the nearby station walking to the flat

she used to inhabit before marriage.

She went there to recollect all her college memories, childhood, friends and family gatherings, on her old computer...

she never likes to share this part of her life with anyone, because all the friends

she used to have abandoned her and her family splitted to different places

forgetting about each other and finding another priorities,

and the husband isn't even a listener, he would underestimate anything she says.

Martha came back home in the morning, Freud went to his work already

she took a shower, wiped the lipstick

and texted Kayla to meet with her, meanwhile, the TV was broadcasting a murder case,

about a lady that was dead for eight days and already started decomposing

rapidly because of the hot climate... They still couldn't catch the serial killer

who targets women in the county. Martha was never scared of death, she even wished to die but still seeks hope in every step she takes, she thinks that at a certain moment...

she will end her life up, either because her mental status or sacrificing for a beloved.

She went to Kayla as dealt with each other, they dressed up and hanged out

as two adult ladies...

Kayla left Jennifer with her nanny safe and sound and spent the night with Martha chitchatting and gossiping… After this spicy night’s program was finished, Kayla preceded heading to her home, Whereas Martha stayed outside a little bit, smelling fresh air... Both husbands of each stayed the night without them, Jacob came back from work tired and slept making sure

his kid is sleeping too and allowed the babysitter to go home,

and Freud came back home taking advantage of his wife's absence, he didn't even know that she came home once after she spent the previous night out, he knows she already goes to that flat from time to time, he invited his mistress and became wasted, as they spent the whole night together, and later he found his wife not in her flat or even came later, neither Kayla

Therefore, both husbands reported their absence and asked to put them on missing lists.

The answer here: Martha’s only hope was to live normal, just a day out causes her to feel different feelings and temporary happiness, whereas she feels otherwise the entire days, Martha just wanted to live, since she feels invisible constantly especially at her own territory, her own home.

While that grumpy narcissist husband Freud was looking up to the ceiling after his wife disappeared, he just recollected how alive she was before she damaged herself, as he claims, he never blames himself, and after this, looked sympathetically at her empty shoes, comparing it to the moment her feet were wearing them in a rainy day walking over mud until the mud dries on them and gets removed by a screwdriver that scrubs the bottom of them and help the owner washing them later by detergents.

He looked at the shoes, remembering that she was alive, at a certain time, but now it doesn’t make a difference for both of them, she became dead in a while.
